Surveillance Approach Upgrade

Last December 29, 2022, at 0000UTC, Bacolod, Kalibo, and Davao Approaches (covering the Caticlan, Kalibo, Roxas, Bacolod, Iloilo, and Davao Towers) officially transitioned to Approach Control Surveillance Service.

By transitioning to Approach Control Surveillance Service and having real-time air traffic surveillance, ATCs, and aviation stakeholders have:

Improved controller situational awareness through 100 percent surveillance in all sectors concerned, reducing its response time to deviation requests, direct routings, and other situations.

Enhanced efficiency by reducing separation, without compromising safety and traffic flow.

Expanded capacity as it will be having more flexible use of airspace, lowering separation minima, and more efficient air traffic flow management (ATFM).

Improve predictability by enabling ATCs to provide optimal routing of aircraft through vectoring and effectively adjust flight paths to the most efficient route that avoids weather or other reserved/restricted airspaces, and increase the ability for ATCs to accurately assess capacity constraints in real-time.

Better air traffic service is made possible by our ATCs, ANS, and the management as we go into the year 2023!

Congratulations to our ATCs who are now providing Approach Control Surveillance Service on their successful transition!
